- 1/2 lb. butter or margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. water
- 1 lb. raisins
- 1 lb. dates, chopped
- 1 lb. candied fruit mix
- 1/2 lb. candied cherries (red and/or green)
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 well beaten eggs
- 4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. nutmeats, chopped
Method
- Mix butter, sugar, water, raisins, dates, candied fruit, candied cherries, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt.
- Boil together.
- Let cool.
- Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Spoon into 3 large bread pans or 5 small bread pans.
- Bake in a 300° to 325° oven for 1 1/2 hours.
- Cool.
- Wrap in cloth soaked in dry white wine, then in Saran Wrap, and then in aluminum foil. Store in a cool place.
