Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 c. honey
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 3 Packages dry yeast
  • 2 - 2 1/2 c. bread flour
  • 1 c. rolled oats
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour

Method

  • Combine water, honey, butter, Large eggs and yeast.
  • Let set to dissolve yeast.
  • Add in remaining ingredients.
  • Fold in mixer with dough hook or possibly knead by hand, about 5 - 10 min, till elastic.
  • Dough will be soft.
  • Place in greased bowl.
  • Cover and let rise till double, 45 min to 1 hour.
  • Punch down and divide.
  • Pat into 2 loaves.
  • Place in greased 9"x5"x3" bread pans.
  • Let rise for 45 min to 1 hour.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 min.
  • Makes 2 loaves.
  • Cold in pans for about 10 min then finish cooling on wire rack.
  • I usually coat the top crust of baked bread by "buttering" it lightly with butter while warm.
  • This softens the crust and makes it easier to slice after cooling.
