Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley
  • 1/4 tsp. poultry seasoning (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. sage

Method

  • Cut shortening into flour, spices, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • Stir in milk. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew or thick soup.
  • Try not to drop directly into liquid.
  • Cook, uncovered, 10 minutes.
  • Cover and cook 10 minutes longer.
  • (I use these for homemade, from scratch chicken and dumplings.)
