Ingredients

  • 1 lb. green beans (regular cut)
  • 1 lb. yellow wax beans
  • 1 lb. red kidney beans
  • 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2/3 c. cider vinegar
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 can garbanzo beans (chickpeas; optional)
  • 1/3 c. salad oil (Wesson)

Method

  • Drain beans and mix together.
  • Mix into a bowl or jar the chopped pepper, sugar, vinegar, oil, salt and pepper and pour over beans.
  • Marinate, covered, overnight. Stir a few times. Double or triple the recipe for large picnics.
  • Recipe alone serves 10 helpings.
