Ingredients

  • 1 unsliced loaf French bread
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1/3 c. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped onion (green)
  • 1/4 c. chopped, pitted ripe olives
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, cut in rings
  • 4 oz. sharp process American cheese, shredded (1 c.)

Method

  • Cut loaf lengthwise.
  • Combine tomato paste, Parmesan cheese, onion, olives, oregano, salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
  • Add meat; mix well.
  • Spread atop loaf halves.
  • Place on baking sheet.
  • Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from oven, top with tomato slices and green pepper rings.
  • Sprinkle cheese atop tomatoes.
  • Bake 5 minutes.
  • Serves 4 or 5.
