Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Pour boiling water slowly over the cocoa, stirring until mixture is consistency of cake batter.
  • Beat egg yolks well and add to chocolate.
  • Cream butter and sugar well; stir into mixture. Stir soda into buttermilk.
  • Add buttermilk and flour slowly.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Fold in well beaten egg whites.
  • Bake in two pans for 20 minutes at 350°.
