Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb bacon, cut-up
  • 1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • seasoned salt & pepper, to taste
  • 2 -3 tablespoons butter

Method

  • Place Sauerkraut in a collander & rinse well -- set aside to drain.
  • Brown the ground beef & bacon together -- drain all but 1 T. fat.
  • Season the kraut to taste & add to meat mixture.
  • Add water & cover.
  • Simmer for 1 hour.
  • Place in a lightly buttered cassarole dish.
  • Top with mashed potatoes & dot with butter.
  • Bake in oven, uncovered for 1/2 hour @ 350°.
